A well known cephalosporin antibiotic belonging to the third-generation, Cefoperazone is effective in the treatment of Pseudomonas bacterial infections. A point to be noted is that such infections are resistant to other cephalosporin antibiotics. This antibiotic has wide spectrum of bacterial susceptibility. It is commonly used to target specific bacteria that causes infections of skin, urinary tract, respiratory and the female genital tract. Cefoperazone has NMTT side chain, whose free amount is released as soon as the antibiotic is consumed. This may cause a reaction with ethanol and hypoprothrombinemia.
